How to Join the LSCC

In order to join the LSCC you need to come out with the Club. Through taking part in meets you’ll get to know the Club and Club members will get to know you before you apply. This makes each application personal and most people find that by the time they apply to join the Club they are already feel a part of it.

The attendance requirement is a minimum of eight days with the Club, which must include three weekend meets, over a minimum period of six months and a maximum period of two years.

Although the LSCC isn't suitable for beginners, those with less mountaineering experience can join as a Graduating Member and should aspire to become a Full Member within six years.  Full Membership expects you to be competent on the Scottish hill in mist and in moderate snow conditions and to have some experience of rock climbing in Scotland.

Both levels of membership, Graduating and Full, have set criteria and the attendance requirement is the same.

Also, for both levels of membership, you should have a Proposer, (someone with detailed knowledge of your mountaineering ability) and two Seconders, who have been out on the hill with you. Once you come along to meets and get to know the Club, you'll find members who are happy to propose and second your application.
When you have completed your eight days with the Club you'll know which level of Membership you wish to apply for.

What is your top tip for a new member of the club?
Come along on lots of meets and get to know members. There is so much history in the club and lots of really interesting people with great stories to tell. I've found everyone in the club really welcoming, so hopefully you will too.
